Is Roblox safe for kids? A parents’ guide
In short: yes, Roblox can be safe for kids if a few settings are right and you agree on some rules together. Here are the key points for parents at a glance.
The essentials in brief
Roblox is a gaming platform for many age groups. It becomes much safer for children when you enter the real age, adjust the privacy and chat settings, limit spending and agree on clear rules together.
The most important safety settings
- 1
Enter the real age
Create the account with the correct date of birth. Roblox adapts content and chat options to the age.
- 2
Link a parent account
The old parent PIN no longer exists. Link your own Roblox account to your child’s account, then you manage parental controls from your own device.
- 3
Limit chat & contacts
In parental controls you decide whether and with whom your child may chat, and you can see their friends list.
- 4
Limit spending
Don’t store payment details permanently and agree on a fixed Robux budget. That way there are no nasty surprises.
What to watch out for
Common risks are contact attempts from strangers, “trust trades” and scams when trading, and fraud with supposedly “free Robux”. Talk with your child about the fact that real codes and items never ask for a password or real money.
Agree on rules together
Clear rules you discuss together often work better than bans:
- Never share a password, address or real personal details.
- Come to a parent about strange messages or offers.
- Agree on fixed play times. Breaks are perfectly fine.
- Only trade fairly: no “trust trades”, no “free Robux” sites.

Frequently asked questions from parents
What age is Roblox suitable for?
According to Roblox, an account is possible from age 5, and Roblox sets it up by age: children aged 5 to 8 get a Roblox Kids account with only selected games rated Minimal and Mild, children aged 9 to 15 a Roblox Select account. In Germany, the USK has rated Roblox 16 and over since the start of 2025. Whether your child plays is your decision. What matters is the real date of birth and a linked parent account, through which you set up parental controls.
Can my child chat with strangers on Roblox?
Yes, but only with limits. Roblox currently requires an age check for any chat, and after that, according to Roblox, your child only chats with people in similar age groups or with Trusted Friends. Children under 9 may only chat if you allow it, and children under 13 need your consent for direct chat. Roblox filters chat by default so that no personal information gets through. You set all this in parental controls through your linked parent account.
Does Roblox cost money? What are Robux?
Roblox is free to play. Robux is the in-game currency for extras. Limit spending and don’t store payment details permanently.
What is Murder Mystery 2, and is it ok for kids?
MM2 is a popular Roblox game with cartoon graphics where you guess roles. Roblox rates it Moderate, among other things for repeated moderate violence. So in a Roblox Kids account for ages 5 to 8, it can only be played if you allow it individually in parental controls. It’s best to take a look yourself and decide based on your child.
How do I protect my child from scams?
Explain that real codes and trades never ask for a password or real money. No “free Robux” sites, no “trust trades”. When in doubt, your child comes to you.
