Roblox makes its safety systems public: what parents get out of it

On 19 August, Roblox released three systems that are meant to protect children from abuse. Other platforms are now allowed to use them. What that means in practice, and what it does not mean.
On 19 August 2026, Roblox made three of the systems it uses to protect children publicly available. Other providers may use them from now on, free of charge. That is what the official Roblox newsroom says.
For you at home, nothing changes today. It is still worth a look, because the numbers say quite a bit about what goes on in the background.
What this is about
There are three separate systems.
Sentinel watches for conversation patterns that point to grooming, meaning someone slowly pushing a child towards something. The key point: it raises a flag before a chat becomes explicit. According to Roblox, in the twelve months up to 7 August 2026 almost 70 percent of the detected cases of child endangerment were found through Sentinel first.
The PII checker recognises when someone asks for personal data or gives it away, such as address, phone number, last name. The new version reaches an accuracy score of 90.5, compared with 63.4 before.
The voice checker listens in on voice chats and recognises insults and abusive behaviour in 30 languages.
What that means for you
Honestly: nothing right away. These systems have been running at Roblox for a while, they are now simply being made available to other companies as well. On your child’s device, no button and no setting changes.
Two things are worth taking away all the same.
First: chat is monitored, and that includes voice chat. It is no secret, but many parents are not aware of it. If you are explaining to your child why they should not hand out private details, you can happily add that Roblox watches for this itself.
Second, and this is the more important point: software that finds 70 percent of cases misses 30 percent. Technology is no substitute for knowing who your child plays and talks with.
What you can do yourself
The settings that really make a difference are still the ones you make yourself: restrict chat, limit friend requests, switch on spending notifications, link a parent account. How that works step by step is on Is Roblox safe for kids?.
And if you are setting up an account right now: the correct date of birth is the most important entry of all, because every protective setting hangs on it. The way there is in our guide Create a Roblox account.
