MM2 Knives and Skins: the Rarity Tiers Explained Simply

By Liska, has been playing Roblox and Murder Mystery 2 for almost three years

What does rarity really mean for MM2 knives? Here you learn which tiers there are, why some knives are so sought after, and how to judge the value without getting it wrong.

Contents

The value of an MM2 knife depends above all on how rare it is: the rarer an item, the more it is worth in a trade. Murder Mystery 2 sorts its knives and weapons into official rarity tiers for this, from Common all the way up to Godly and beyond. If you know these tiers, you can roughly judge a trade without knowing every single value by heart. And that is easier than it looks at first.

Why are some MM2 knives worth more than others?

The value of an MM2 knife has nothing to do with how it looks. A knife is valuable because only a few players have it. If an item was only available in one event that ended long ago, almost nobody owns it any more. That makes people want it, and so its trade value goes up on its own.

On the other side, MM2 has items that you can buy or get easily at any time. Those are more common, and that is why they are also less in demand when trading.

Which rarity tiers MM2 has

MM2 officially sorts its items into rarity tiers. These tiers help you place an item without knowing every single value by heart.

Common: These items are easy to get. They are often the starting point for new players, but they are worth little in a trade.

Uncommon: Already a bit rarer, but still easy enough to reach. A sensible starting point if you are new to trading.

Rare: Here it gets more interesting. These items take a bit more effort or luck to get.

Epic and Legendary: From here on we are talking about items that many players want and only a few own. The difference between these tiers can already be clearly felt in a trade.

Ancient and Godly: These are the most sought after categories. If you have an item like that, you own something almost nobody else has. So the expectations in a trade are high too.

Seraphim and above Godly: There are items that sit even above the Godly level. These often have a story of their own: they come from events long in the past, they never appeared again, and so they are extremely rare.

What the rarity tier means for the value

The rarity tier is the most important clue about the value of an MM2 item, but it is not the only one. The look of an item, its background (for example whether it comes from a special event) and how much the community wants it right now all play a part. So two items in the same tier can still be worth different amounts.

Because so many things come together here, there are value lists for MM2. They take all of these things into account and give an up to date picture of how the items compare. If you want to know what one particular knife is worth right now, have a look at our MM2 value list. You will find the overview there without any guessing.

For parents: putting MM2 values in the right place

Kids who play MM2 often talk about their knives with a lot of excitement. That is harmless, as long as one thing is clear: the “value” of these items only exists inside the game. It is not worth real money, and it changes over time, depending on what the community wants at the moment.

Even so, it is good when children learn to judge values and to spot a fair trade. That protects them from frustration and from scams. How trading works exactly and what can go wrong there is explained separately on our page about MM2 trading.

Short summary

The rarer an MM2 item, the more it is worth in a trade. The official tiers give you a first orientation, but the exact value is always set by the community together with supply and demand. You can find the current state in the MM2 value list before you make your next trade.
