The Best Roblox Games for Kids: What Parents Should Look Out For

Roblox has a huge number of games, but not all of them are right for children. We explain the Roblox maturity labels, which kinds of game work well, and what parents should know about Murder Mystery 2.

Contents

You can recognise good Roblox games for kids first by a maturity label that fits their age, then by short rounds, clear rules, and little pressure from chat or purchases. These things matter more than any best-of list, because Roblox is not a single app with one game in it, but a platform with a huge number of games that other users have built. For kids that is a huge draw, for parents it is hard to keep track of. Here is what counts when you choose a game, and why so many kids are crazy about Murder Mystery 2.

As of 25 September 2026. On this day we checked the Roblox Help articles on maturity labels, the Roblox Kids and Roblox Select age groups, age checks and parental controls, as well as the maturity label of Murder Mystery 2 on Roblox.

If you would first like to understand what Roblox actually is, our page What is Roblox is a good place to start.

How to tell whether a Roblox game fits your child

Roblox shows a maturity label on every game’s page. According to Roblox Help, there are four labels:

  • Minimal: may contain occasional mild violence, light unrealistic blood or occasional mild fear.
  • Mild: may contain repeated mild violence, heavy unrealistic blood, mild crude humor or repeated mild fear.
  • Moderate: may contain moderate violence, light realistic blood, moderate crude humor, unplayable gambling content or moderate fear.
  • Restricted: may contain, among other things, strong violence, heavy realistic blood, romantic themes, alcohol and strong language. These games are only open to age checked users aged 18 and over.

On top of that, Roblox uses the age on the account to decide which games a child can open by default. Children aged 5 to 8 get a Roblox Kids account. It only offers games rated Minimal and Mild that have also passed a three-step selection process by Roblox. From age 9, in a Roblox Select account, games rated Moderate are accessible as well. According to Roblox, both account types only show a selection of age-appropriate games. If a game is missing, parents with a linked account can allow it individually in parental controls, except Restricted games. In the same way, they can block single games and set the highest label their child may play.

That is a good first filter, but not a complete one. According to Roblox, the information about a game’s content comes from the people who make the game. And what the labels do not show explicitly: how much pressure a game puts on buying things, and how much chatting goes on in it. In everyday life, those are the points you notice more than the label.

Types of Roblox game that work well for kids

Some Roblox categories carry fewer risks than others:

Creative and building games give kids tools to design their own worlds. The focus is on building, not on dealing with strangers. That makes them calmer and less open to unpleasant encounters.

Co-op adventure games bring kids and their friends together to solve tasks as a team. As long as your child only plays with people they already know, it is a really good experience.

Games with short rounds often have clear rules, and after every round there is a natural point to stop. Murder Mystery 2 runs in rounds as well, but Roblox rates it Moderate, more on that in a moment.

Murder Mystery 2: why it pulls in so many kids

According to its game page on Roblox, Murder Mystery 2 has more than 30 billion visits. In each round, every player takes one of three roles: Innocent, Sheriff or Murderer. At the start, nobody knows who is what. That creates suspense. Violence is still part of it: Roblox rates Murder Mystery 2 Moderate and names repeated moderate violence and light realistic blood as the reasons. In a Roblox Kids account for ages 5 to 8, the game can only be played if the parents allow it individually in parental controls. From age 9, games rated Moderate are possible in a Roblox Select account. But Select only opens a selection of games. If a game is missing from it, parents can allow it individually.

Something that surprises many parents: Murder Mystery 2 has a strong trading culture. Kids collect knives and other items and swap them with each other. That is fun, but it brings questions of its own. If you want to know how this trading works, our page on MM2 trading explains it. And if you want to check whether an item is valued fairly in a swap, our MM2 value list gives you something to go by.

What parents can check before saying yes to a Roblox game

Before you allow a new Roblox game, these three points help:

Take a quick look yourself. Ten minutes of watching or playing along are enough to get a feel for what happens in the game and how the other players treat each other.

Set up chat in parental controls. Roblox currently requires an age check for all chat. After that, children chat with users in similar age groups or with trusted friends. Children under 9 need their parents’ consent for game chat. Children under 13 need it for direct chat, and children aged 9 to 12 also for certain other communication features. Parents set this up through a parent account of their own that is linked to the child’s account, in parental controls under Communication. There is more about this on our page about Roblox and safety.

Talk with your child about who they know in the game. Roblox games make it possible to play together with strangers. That is not automatically a problem, but kids should know that a person in a game is not automatically a friend.

In short

There is no perfect Roblox game for every child. What counts is a quick look beforehand and an open conversation. Good games are fun, without pressure to buy things and without risky contact with strangers. The label on the game’s page is the first filter: for children under 9, Roblox intends games rated Minimal and Mild. Murder Mystery 2 has short rounds and an idea that is easy to understand, but Roblox rates it Moderate, a label Roblox only intends from age 9.

Where the information comes from

The four labels, and that the people who make a game provide the information about its content, are in Roblox Help under Content Maturity Labels. Which labels Roblox Kids and Roblox Select open, the selection process for Roblox Kids, the communication features for which children aged 9 to 12 need their parents’ consent, and the age of 13 for spending limits are under What happens as my child or teen gets older on Roblox? That both account types only show a selection, that parents can allow or block single games, the communication settings and the spending limit with the exception for gift cards are described in the Parental Controls Overview, and that parents set the label for their child in the Content Maturity FAQ. That all chat requires an age check and who you can chat with afterwards is under Understanding Age Checks on Roblox. Roblox shows the Moderate label with its reasons and the number of visits on the Murder Mystery 2 game page.

Frequently asked questions

Look at the maturity label on the game's page. Roblox uses the labels Minimal, Mild, Moderate and Restricted, and it lists what the game contains, such as violence or blood. Are Roblox games free?+

Many games can be played for free. Some games do offer paid items or paid advantages inside the game world. It is worth checking that beforehand, so there are no surprise purchases. For children under 13, parents with a linked account can set a monthly spending limit in parental controls. According to Roblox, the limit does not apply to redeeming gift cards.
