An MM2 scam is an attempt to cheat someone while trading items in Murder Mystery 2. Somebody gets a child to hand over an item without really giving anything of equal value back. The official trade window in the game is safe, so scams almost always happen around it. This guide shows parents the most common tricks, how to spot them, and when to step in.
What is trading in MM2 anyway?
In MM2, players swap their items, meaning knives and guns, directly with each other. No real money, just item for item. How exactly that works is explained on our page about MM2 trading. The main thing to know: the official trade window in the game is safe. Problems come up almost only when somebody tries to get around that window.
The most common scam tricks in MM2
1. “You give first, then I give”
“You give first, then I give” is the oldest MM2 trick. Somebody claims they cannot use the trade window right now, or they tell a story about why the item has to be handed over “outside” first. As soon as the child gives their item, the other player disappears.
Remember: A real trade always happens in the official window. Both sides give at the same time.
2. Value scam
In a value scam, somebody takes advantage of the fact that a child does not know what their MM2 items are worth. They offer an item that looks like a lot but is actually worth clearly less than what the child gives away. Anyone who knows the current value of their items is protected against this. Our MM2 value list gives you a reliable idea of what things are worth.
3. Pressure and fake urgency
“Only right now!”, “This offer is good for one more minute!”, “You are the only one I am offering this to.” Lines like that are meant to stop someone from checking a trade in peace. A fair trade is never in an artificial hurry.
4. Fake people you are meant to trust
Some scammers pretend to be well known YouTubers, moderators or even Roblox staff. Roblox staff never contact players inside the game to ask for items or to set up trades.
5. Phishing outside the game
On Discord, in YouTube comments or on other platforms, links sometimes go around to websites that promise free items or a “value check”. Those sites then ask for Roblox login details. That is not an MM2 problem but a general internet problem, and it hits MM2 players in particular, because they are actively looking for information about values.
What you as parents can do about MM2 scams
You do not have to become a Roblox expert. These three things already help a lot:
Look at it together once. Have your child show you how a trade works. The official window, what is in it, and how you say no. Five minutes are enough.
Agree on one simple principle. “We never hand over items outside the official window” is a clear rule that children can remember even in the middle of a game.
Check the value before confirming. Before a big trade is confirmed, take a quick look at our MM2 value list. That costs one minute and protects against the most common type of scam.
What to do if a scam has already happened
Sadly, a scammed item does not come back. Roblox does not reverse individual trades, no matter what happened. But you can report the scammer through the Roblox report process in the game, and that helps the community.
More important than getting the item back is the conversation afterwards. Children who have been through a scam once spot the pattern straight away the next time.
Conclusion
MM2 scams are no reason to ban the game. They are a good reason to talk together about trust on the internet, about pressure, and about offers that sound too good. Once you know the tricks, they have almost no power over you. You can find more about fair trading on our page about MM2 trading.
Frequently asked questions
What is an MM2 scam?+
A scam is an attempt to cheat someone while trading in Murder Mystery 2. Somebody tries to get a child to hand over an item without really giving anything of equal value back.
Can my child really lose something?+
Yes, but only if they trade outside the official trade window or let someone put pressure on them. The official window in the game is safe, because both sides have to confirm. Scams only work when someone gets around it.
What should I do if my child has been scammed?+
Stay calm. The item is gone and sadly cannot be brought back, because Roblox does not reverse such trades. Use it as a moment to learn, talk about the trick together, and report the player with the Roblox report function.
