Download and Install Roblox: Step by Step for PC, Phone and Tablet

Downloading Roblox takes less than ten minutes on every device. The app is free, and there is no complicated setup. But here is what many people do not know: PC and phone work a little differently. Below you find exactly what to do on each device.

On the PC (Windows)

On a PC the installation runs through the browser, not through an app store. That is the most important difference.

1. Go to Roblox.com and click on “Play” or on any game title.
2. The browser asks whether the Roblox app should be opened or installed. Click on “Download Roblox”.
3. Start the downloaded file (RobloxPlayerInstaller.exe) and follow the setup assistant.
4. After the installation the game starts right away. Next time one click in the browser is enough, Roblox opens by itself.

A common mistake: children click on “Play”, then see a message and close the window. The result is a half finished installation. Click all the way through once and really let the installer run to the end.

On the Mac it works in a similar way: go to Roblox.com, download the .dmg file, open it and drag the app into the Applications folder.

On the Android phone or Android tablet

1. Open the Google Play Store and search for “Roblox”.
2. Choose the entry from Roblox Corporation and tap on “Install”.
3. After the download, open the app, create an account or log in, done.

The whole installation happens inside the Play Store, there are no extra steps. If you use a tablet: Roblox runs there just like on a phone, the screen is only bigger, which makes playing more comfortable.

A common mistake: the Play Store shows “Not compatible” for the app. That happens with very old or very basic Android devices. According to its own Help, Roblox needs at least Android 8.0, and the device has to support the graphics standard OpenGL ES 3.0. If the device may be too weak, Roblox shows a warning, and games can then stutter.

On the iPhone or iPad (iOS)

1. Open the App Store and search for “Roblox”.
2. Choose the app from Roblox Corporation and download it.
3. After the installation, open it, sign in or create an account.

For children who use a device with Screen Time, the download can need a confirmation from the parents. That is not an error, it is the iOS parental control. Simply confirm the request on the parent’s iPhone.

A note for the iPad: Roblox is optimised for the iPhone, but it runs on the iPad without problems too. There is no separate iPad entry in the App Store, the iPhone app adjusts itself automatically.

What comes after the installation

After the first start Roblox asks for an account. What matters most here is the real date of birth. Roblox uses it to decide which games and features the account gets by default: children aged 5 to 8 get a Roblox Kids account, children aged 9 to 15 a Roblox Select account, and for any chat Roblox currently requires an age check. For children under 13, Roblox expects a parent’s email address: the parent verifies it on the child’s account under Settings, Account Info as a parental recovery email. If the child forgets the password, the parent can use it to help the child back into the account. Parents should be there when the account is created.

Once the account is ready, you can start. A lot of children begin straight away with Murder Mystery 2. The game needs no prior knowledge, the rounds last only a few minutes, and you get into it quickly. Roblox rates it Moderate. So in a Roblox Kids account for ages 5 to 8, it can only be played if the parents allow it individually in parental controls.
