How to Install Roblox: Simple Guide With Fixes for Common Errors
By Liska, has been playing Roblox and Murder Mystery 2 for almost three years
Installing Roblox on a PC, phone or tablet takes only a few steps. Here is what can go wrong during the installation and how to fix it, without hours of searching.
Contents
Installing Roblox takes less than five minutes on most devices. If you know where to look, you will hardly run into trouble. Where it does get stuck, it is usually one of three things: too little storage space, a device that is too old, or a network problem on the first launch. This page walks through the installation step by step and deals with the most common errors as they come up.
Which devices does Roblox run on?
Roblox is available for:
- PC and Mac (download from the official website roblox.com)
- Android phones and tablets (Google Play Store)
- iPhone and iPad (Apple App Store)
- Amazon Fire tablets (Amazon Appstore)
- Xbox (Microsoft Store)
On Amazon Fire tablets, Roblox is not in the Play Store. It sits in the Amazon Appstore instead. That point confuses parents now and then, because a search in the Play Store comes up empty on those devices.
You do not need a separate browser for the installation. Roblox does run at roblox.com, but to actually play, the app has to be installed. The browser on its own is not enough.
Installing on a phone or tablet
- Open the App Store or the Play Store.
- Search for “Roblox”. The official icon is a small white square on a light blue background with the word Roblox on it.
- Tap “Install” and wait.
- Open the app and sign in with an existing account, or create a new one.
When you create the account, enter the child’s real date of birth, not an invented one. Accounts under 13 automatically get safer chat settings.
Installing on a PC
- Open roblox.com in your browser and click “Download” or “Play”.
- Open the downloaded file (RobloxPlayerLauncher.exe on Windows, RobloxPlayer.dmg on Mac).
- Follow the instructions in the installer window.
- Roblox then starts by itself and asks you to log in.
On Windows, the firewall or an antivirus program can block the launch. A dialog box then appears asking for permission. Click “Allow access” there so that Roblox can connect.
When the installation does not work: the most common problems
Not enough storage space: Roblox itself is not large, but every game downloads extra data the first time it starts. That adds up. If the installation breaks off, check whether at least 1 to 2 GB are free. Deleting photos or videos you no longer need can help.
Device too old: Very old phones and tablets stop receiving operating system updates at some point. Roblox requires certain minimum versions. If the app will not even download from the store, that is often the reason. A look in the settings under “About device” or “System info” shows the current Android or iOS version.
Roblox does not start after the installation: Restart the whole device first. Then check whether a newer Roblox version is available in the store. If it still does not work, uninstall Roblox and install it fresh. All progress and the account stay intact, because Roblox stores that data on its own servers, not only locally on the device.
Connection error at launch: Roblox needs an active internet connection to load games. If the Wi-Fi is unsteady or too weak, the launch sometimes breaks off. Reconnecting to the Wi-Fi or switching to a stronger connection usually helps.
What comes next
After the installation you land on the Roblox home page with thousands of games. If you want to start with Murder Mystery 2, simply search for “Murder Mystery 2” or just “MM2”. The game has a knife icon and is free.
If you would like to know a bit more about MM2 before starting your first round: our page on the MM2 value list shows which items get traded in that game. And once you understand how the trading system works, you are better prepared from the start. Everything about it is on the MM2 Trading page.
Frequently asked questions
Why will Roblox not install even though there is enough storage?+
Sometimes the free space you can see is not enough, because the system itself needs room. Roblox recommends at least 1 GB free, but in practice it runs more reliably with 2 GB or more. It also helps to close all other apps before installing and, if your device offers it, to clear the app cache.
Can I install Roblox on an old tablet?+
That depends on the operating system. Roblox needs at least version 5.0 on Android and at least version 16 on iOS. Very old devices stop getting updates and therefore cannot run the current Roblox app. A quick look in the system settings shows which version is installed.
Roblox does not start after the installation. What can I do?+
First restart the device completely, not just close the app and open it again. Then check whether a Roblox update is pending. If that does not help, you can uninstall Roblox and install it fresh. Your progress and your account stay intact, because they are stored in the cloud.
